Produce Available Saturday 20th November

A frosty, and beautiful start to the week. A  great pleasure to be outside in the warm sunshine. On Monday we moved the sheep to fresh grazing, after having given everyone a pre winter, much needed mani/pedicure. As  rain was  predicted for Wednesday , we decided to get some covers onto our large mounds of manure that will be used next seasons fertlity. We cover the heaps in plastic sheeting, this helps to  prevent as little leaching as possible from the manure of the precious nutrients that it holds, essential ingredients for a good growing season. So with Wednesday’s heavy rain we were glad to have completed that job.  The ducks and geese enjoy the wet times very much, as all our streams and ponds are brimming with water. Every morning both the ducks and geese rush out of their houses, to the water for a swim They splash about frantically whilst squaking at each other very loudly, then they all waddle back up the slope for their breakfast. The chickens however are not so keen, and hang around their houses looking like they are waiting for a bus that will never come, and that they have forgotten their umbrellas, rather a sad side, but it always makes us laugh. The birds in general are quite a focus for us at the moment, we have looked after them for months now, and in the run up to Christmas we need to keep them in good health, and away in their houses at dusk ,out of the reach of any potential fox that may be looking for a duck or ten to feed the family. Otherwise things feel rather sleepy on the farm, growth is becoming dormat with decreasing daylight hours every day and temperatures dropping.
