Produce Available Saturday 16th October | Fern Verrow

Produce Available Saturday 16th October

Thankfully we have had another dry and reasonably bright week, excuse me for always banging on about the weather.. firstly I am English and it is what we do, but  secondly it really does help us to progress with our work at Fern Verrow., and we like that. Leaves on the trees are beginning to turn, and the light is golden especially as the sun lowers in the late afternoon. The new borders for the herb beds are built, and look very smart they have been dug over ready for planting in the spring. The fruit trees and bushes have had a generous application of manure, a dusting of CPP preparation, and a dressing of precious  2 year old leaf mould. Followed with a covering of straw to help keep the weed growth down and give the plants a little blanket as it were, to protect them in the colder months. Lots of activity with wheelbarrows.

Very happy to say that this week we will have some of our chickens for sale, along with bacon and gammon joints from our pigs. We will also be bringing our “main” crop spuds to the Markets this week. Arran Victory the purple roasters, Cara the great mashing potato, Desiree which does most things well and Nicola, which we think boil well as they don’t break up and have a brilliant flavour.
